FAQs

We understand you may have questions about chiropractic care. Below, you’ll find answers to some common questions people ask before visiting the clinic.

You can book an appointment directly without a referral from your GP. At your first visit, we will listen to your concerns, carry out an appropriate assessment, explain our findings and discuss the next steps with you.

We value a collaborative approach and work alongside GPs and other healthcare professionals when helpful. If further medical assessment or input would benefit you, we will explain why and, with your permission, communicate with the appropriate healthcare professional or arrange a referral.

Your first appointment is designed to help us understand what has been going on and what you would like to achieve. We will discuss your symptoms, medical history, lifestyle and goals, as well as any previous injuries or treatment.

We will then carry out a thorough physical examination and explain our initial findings. If chiropractic care is appropriate, we may provide treatment at this appointment.

We will then arrange a Results Session for your next visit. During this session, we will discuss our findings and diagnosis in detail, explain our recommendations, answer your questions and outline the treatment options available to you.

Your Initial Consultation and Assessment may take up to 60 minutes. This allows us to discuss your concerns, carry out a thorough assessment and answer any questions you may have.

Most treatment appointments last up to 20 minutes, depending on your individual needs.

Comfortable clothing that allows you to move easily can be helpful. Depending on the area being assessed, you may need to remove a jacket or outer layer, although this will always be discussed with you first. Shorts or loose-fitting clothing can also be useful but are not essential.

Occasionally, a clinic gown may help us complete the assessment. Gowns are provided, and your comfort, dignity and privacy will always be respected. You are also welcome to have a chaperone present if you would prefer.

Where clinically appropriate, initial treatment may be provided during your first appointment following your consultation and assessment. Treatment will only be given with your consent and when it is considered suitable for you.

At your second appointment, we will present our findings, discuss your diagnosis and recommendations, and answer any questions you may have. Once you are happy to proceed, your treatment will continue as discussed.

Chiropractors are trained in taking and interpreting musculoskeletal X-rays. Depending on your symptoms, medical history and examination findings, we may recommend X-rays if they are likely to provide useful clinical information.

If more advanced imaging, such as an MRI or CT scan, is appropriate, we will explain why and refer you to the most suitable service.

Chiropractic is generally considered a safe form of care when provided by a suitably qualified and regulated practitioner, and treatment should not be painful. We carefully select techniques suited to your age, condition, medical history and personal preferences.

As with many healthcare treatments, some people experience mild, temporary soreness afterwards, which usually settles within a day or two. Before treatment begins, we will explain the proposed approach, discuss its potential risks and benefits, and answer any questions you may have.

Treatment is tailored to each individual and may include chiropractic adjustments, joint mobilisation, soft tissue therapy, dry needling, electroacupuncture, rehabilitation exercises, movement advice and lifestyle guidance.

We will always explain the techniques we recommend, why they are appropriate for you and ensure you are comfortable with your treatment before we begin.

The treatment options available to you will always be discussed, and the decision is ultimately yours. A neck adjustment will only be considered when it is clinically appropriate and you are comfortable proceeding.

If you would prefer not to have a particular technique, we will respect your wishes and discuss suitable alternatives. No treatment will be provided without your consent.

The number of appointments varies from person to person and depends on several factors, including your symptoms, how long they have been present, your goals and how you respond to care. At your Results Session, we will explain our recommendations and continue to review your progress so that your care remains appropriate to your needs.

Our aim is to help you become more confident and independent in managing your condition. Some people benefit from a short course of care, while others choose to attend occasional maintenance appointments. The recommended approach will be discussed with you, and any ongoing care will always be your choice.

We commonly see people with a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions, including back pain, neck pain, headaches arising from the neck, joint pain, muscle pain, sciatica and trapped or irritated nerves.

During your assessment, we will determine whether chiropractic care is appropriate for your individual presentation. If we do not believe it is the right option for you, we will explain why and help guide you towards the most appropriate healthcare professional or service.

If chiropractic care is not suitable for you, we will discuss the available options and next steps. Where appropriate, this may include recommending further investigation or directing you to another healthcare professional or service.

Movement and exercise can form an important part of recovery. We will advise you on the activities you can continue, any temporary modifications that may be helpful and exercises that can support your progress.

Chiropractors are trained in exercise and rehabilitation and, where appropriate, can create an exercise plan tailored to your individual needs and care. This may include specific exercises and movement advice to support your progress between appointments and complement your treatment.

You may be able to claim the cost of your treatment if chiropractic care is included in your policy. As cover and requirements vary between providers, we recommend checking the details directly with your insurer before your appointment.

We understand that plans can change. If you need to cancel or rearrange your appointment, please contact the clinic and provide at least 24 hours’ notice so that we can offer the appointment to another patient.

Appointments cancelled with less than 24 hours’ notice will be charged at the full appointment fee. Please see our cancellation policy for further details.

Parking is available at both the front and rear of the clinic, with additional on-street parking directly outside. Further information will be included with your booking confirmation.

The clinic is located entirely on the ground floor and is wheelchair accessible through the front entrance.

You are welcome to bring a family member, friend or chaperone with you to your appointment if you would feel more comfortable having them present.

Chiropractic care can be adapted for patients throughout pregnancy. Please contact the clinic to let us know that you are pregnant so we can discuss your individual circumstances and ensure that any assessment or treatment provided is appropriate, comfortable and safe for you.

Children of different ages can receive chiropractic care where it is appropriate for their individual needs. Assessment and treatment are tailored to the child’s age, stage of development and circumstances, with the involvement and consent of their parent or guardian.
